I got a call from an old friend this morning. She has been working on her child’s college student loan applications. A few of the schools wanted very detailed information about every little financial detail of their whole life. One question wanted to know now much their house is worth, and the form specifically says “don’t use any online valuation system like Zillow”.
She called me in a panic!! “How do I figure out what my house is worth”? I went over to meet with her, walked through her house and got all of the important information about the age of the mechanics, made note of her updates, etc. I was able to put together a comparative market analysis of her home and give her a very accurate estimate of what the market value of her house is. I sent her a report and a spreadsheet that she can keep or share in her application.
